What are HID headlights?
Unlike other ordinary headlights, HID bulbs are filled with xenon gas in place of a filament. It is the xenon gas that produces light when ignited. The light produced by a HID bulb has a light intensity 3 times brighter compared to ordinary headlights, which is one of the things that makes them the best headlights. The light produced may also appear to be white-bluish or red-yellowish, making it brighter and more stylish compared to the ordinary orange light produced by the common headlights.
Obtaining your own HID headlights
HID headlights are one of the best and latest creations of technology in the auto-mobile industry and as such they are not very common. They are however easily available in the market for vehicles which don’t come with a pair installed already through HID headlight conversion kits.
There are several factors which set the best headlights apart from the rest, one of them being the price. They are a bit expensive compared to the rest, but the quality they provide and the elegance they add to the car are worth it. Most drivers will never drive behind anything else but HID headlights once they’ve had the opportunity to see exactly how bright and clear they are at night, they are in fact and clearly the best headlights.
If you are planning on buying a new car, you can simply request that it come with the best headlights – HID headlights, if they offer that option. If on the other hand you wish to upgrade your vehicle to these headlights, there is the option to upgrade your standard headlights to HID through an HID conversion kit. These kits come with everything necessary for the installation process.
While there are several HID headlights manufacturers in the market, each kit should come with the following items:
• Two ballasts with built-in igniters.
• Two ballast holders.
• Two HID bulbs.
• Screws and zip ties.
• A pamphlet with detailed instructions to guide you through the installation process.
Using HID headlights
As long as you have some basic knowledge about cars, the guidebook in the HID conversion kit will guide you through the installation process easily and quickly.
The ballasts will be used for converting the car’s electric levels to much higher levels capable of supporting these bulbs. Unlike an ordinary car bulb that requires 12 volts to light; HID headlights require over 20,000 volts just to ignite.
Once the ballast is in place, the rest of the installation process shouldn’t be very difficult. It should in fact take as little as half an hour to complete. From there, you can enjoy a brighter and more elegant light when driving around in the dark and these new HID headlights could in fact outlast the life of your car. The average life span of these HID headlights is around 3000 hrs, quite a fairly long time considering the performance of these bulbs. It will promote and enhance your driving safety and clearly HID headlights are the best headlights.
